Reporting Absence

If your child is absent from school, parents/carers must notify the school as soon as possible. This can be done by telephoning the school office (01332 880208).  The reason for absence must be stated so the correct code on the register can be recorded.

Absence reporting via taxi drives/escorts or other messaging platforms such as  Seesaw/Whatsapp is not acceptable and the school office will still telephone if you have not reported the absence in the correct way.

It is the responsibility of parents/carers to  notify their transport provider of any absences or changes in school attendance. This includes exceptional circumstances such as class or school closures due to weather etc.

Information can be given in a variety of manners. Please ring the school office and make a request if you require correspondence in a language other than English, a larger font or coloured background. Alternatively  or would prefer to meet with our family support worker to assist you in the completion of forms or to discuss given information on a personal basis.

Home to school transport

Due to the nature of our provision, we often have children and young people who travel quite a distance to attend our school. As each child attending has an EHCP there is additional support that may be available through your local council to assist with travel expenses. Please see the below links for further guidance.

We encourage all our students to wear the school uniform which comprises of a burgundy sweatshirt and grey polo shirt, each with an embroidered school logo. However, we understand that some pupils may have sensory issues that make wearing the uniform difficult for them. Therefore, wearing the school uniform is voluntary.

As a school we discourage parents from taking their children out of school for holidays in term time. However, leave can be authorised, in exceptional circumstances, by completing the leave of absence request form and submitting it to the school office.  For further information, please refer to the Parental Guidance also shown below.


Our school requires parental consent in order for your child to participate in a range of activities, particularly out of school. Please complete the form at the link below and return it to school.

We also require consent to administer medication within school. Please complete the form below and return to the school office.


We use two forms of communications to parents/carers.

Classes will communicate daily via ‘Seesaw’ showing the activities and learning that have taken place during the day.  Photo’s and video’s of your child may also be shared. This is a two way portal and we encourage messages from parents and carers. Whole school letters and other useful information regarding events and activities will also be shared here.

ParentPay is used for families who pay for school and residential meals. We may, from time to time, request contributions for trips or adhoc resources which will appear in you ‘other payments’ section of your account.


We also have a Facebook and Twitter page.


We welcome any forms of fundraising from a bake sale to running the London Marathon.

We have a fundraising team in school so please get in touch with any ideas you may have no matter how big or small, it all helps!

School Meals

The cost of a school meals is currently:

  • £2.80 Primary Students
  • £3.10 Secondary Students

Reception, year 1 and year 2

The government’s school food plan offers a free lunch to every child in reception, year 1 and year 2.

Year 3 and above

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you receive any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on: paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit: if you apply on or after 1 April 2018, your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Applying for free school meals

The local authority use the Department for Education’s free school meals eligibility checking system. School are notified of your eligibility.

To apply, you will be required to register and provide:

  • your National Insurance Number or National Asylum Support Service Reference Number
  • your family name
  • your date of birth
  • you may also be required to upload a copy of your benefit document

If you believe you are eligible for a free school meal, please visit the Derbyshire County Council website and complete an online application.
